Three female ATLAS researchers at the Soapbox Science Event 2026 in Stuttgart

On 04 July, pedestrians passing through the bustling Königstraße in the city centre of Stuttgart had the opportunity to gain - often unexpectedly so - insights into ongoing aerospace research at the University of Stuttgart. Twelve female researchers took the audience through a variety of exciting topics through a series of 10-minute interactive talks.

No less than three of these talks were delivered by members of the ATLAS team. Kim-Sophie Ellenberger introduced the audience to the many benefits of sustainable VLEO satellite flight, Elizabeth Gutiérrez talked about how futuristic atmosphere-breathing electric propulsion could revolutionize satellite design and operations and Franziska Tuttas educated the audience on how Earth’s atmosphere responds to objects passing through at extreme velocities. The Soapbox Science Stuttgart event attracted an average of 130 visitors per hour, who would become absorbed by the topics at hand and engage in lively discussions with the presenting scientists.
