ATLAS has kicked off!

April 10, 2024 /

The Collaborative Research Center 1667 "Advancing Technologies of Very Low-Altitude Satellites" (ATLAS) has officially commenced as of 1st April 2024.

As of 1st April 2024, the Collaborative Research Center 1667 "Advancing Technologies of
Very Low-Altitude Satellites" (ATLAS) has officially commenced working on its objective of rendering Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) sustainably accessible by increasing the lifetime of satellites operating therein by at least one order of magnitude.

A total of seventeen dedicated science projects will, in close mutual collaboration, investigate how to handle and exploit the unforgiving environment of the thermosphere, advance technologies facilitating sustained spacecraft operations therein, and address a variety of VLEO-mission-related operational challenges.

The team of the CRC 1667 ATLAS is looking forward to exciting and insightful years ahead!
