This week, the Collaborative Research Centre 1667 ATLAS was excited to receive Dr. Astrid Maute from the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics Kühlungsborn as a special guest. Herself an alumna of the University of Stuttgart, it was here that Dr. Maute earned her doctorate.
In the following years, she would go on to accumulate varied expertise in the area of atmospheric sciences, conducting research work in and around Boulder, Colorado, USA, which is renowned as one of the world's leading centres of atmosphere and space research. Her resumé includes institutions such the High Altitude Observatory of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the Cooperative Institute for Research In Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado Boulder, as well as the Space Weather Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).With her recent return to Germany,
Dr. Maute has now assumed the leadership of the Satellite Data Analysis working group at the Leibniz Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP) in Kühlungsborn. Her invitation to Stuttgart signifies the increasing interest and efforts of the CRC 1667 ATLAS to expand our own research scope into the realm of thermospheric physics and to address the implications on Very Low Earth Orbit satellite operations (stay tuned for more exciting news in this regard!). Her special guest lecture on the Effects of the Lower Atmosphere on the Thermosphere-Ionosphere System and subsequent Q&A was particularly well-attended and well-received by the audience.
In the afternoon, Dr. Maute was received as a special guest of the newly formed Pleione female researcher network of the CRC 1667 ATLAS, offering exclusive insights into her professional and personal experiences as an internationally successful alumna of the University of Stuttgart.
